Period 5 Dominates Vocab Game
Walking into the classroom, where the vocab game is being held, the room was filled with excitement and tension. Joshua Shaw, the person who organized the whole thing, did a great job in setting up the classroom before all of the teams arrived. When all of the teams have arrived, of course the first team to start off the competition is period 3. Joshua did a good job in getting everyone quiet so the game could start. There was a lot of anticipation for period 3 to do well, because they had a well prepared team. Period 3’s team must have been under a lot of pressure, because they didn’t do so well. Pasil tries his best in trying to describe the words, while Alec was the only person in saying the words. Omar later on joined Alec in saying the words. Pasil kept passing a lot of words, and the team was struggling. Sadly, they only got 5 words correct. Even though they didn’t do well, everyone still cheered and clapped for them.
The next team to go up was period 4. This team also didn’t do well either. Maybe it’s the pressure to win, but the team started off strong and then started to struggle to find what the correct word was. Annie does a good job in describing the words, and the team was going fast in the beginning, but in the end, they only managed to get 5 words correct.
Period 5 is up next, and as they said, “We will dominate!”, will they actually dominate the other periods? In fact they do. The team starts off really strong and fast. There is shouting from the describers and the guessers are shouting back too. This team didn’t pass any words at all, and even though they were going really fast, they got 18 words correct. Period 5’s team is really happy with their result and cheers for their hard work.
The last group to go up is period 6. The pressure to win is on them. Kenna does a good job in describing the words, and they start off really strong. Even though they passed some words, they still went fast and strong. They managed to get 16 words correct. Since there is still some time left, there is a second round.
Of course the team to start off the second round is, period 3. The pressure to stay in the competition is on them. Since the team didn’t do so well in the first round, this round is the round they have to do better. The team does start off well. There is a lot of words the team is passing, but they are doing better than the first round. They go kind of fast, but they only managed to get 7 words correct. Even though this meant, period 3 was out of the competition, this is still somewhat of an improvement from the first round. Everyone still claps and cheers for period 3, because no one should feel bad, even when they tried their best.
Period 4 is up now, and the team goes through the words really fast. The flippers are told to go faster, because period 4 is zipping through the words. Period 4 didn’t pass any of the words. Also, the describers are doing a good job in describing the words, and the guessers does a good job in knowing what the word is. Even though the team is zipping through the words really fast, they only manage to get 14 words correct. So is period 5 going to beat period 4, or will the pressure of winning, make them not do so well?
In fact, when period 5 goes up, the team does dominate the whole second round as well! Period 5’s team goes through the words really fast too and they don’t pass any words. The team showed off how much the team studied for this game, by being really solid throughout the whole game. The team gets 27 words correct. This makes period 5 be in first place. Last but not least, period 6 will go up. Will period 6 be in second place?
Period 6 does get second place. Period 6 also goes really fast through the words, but there was some confusion when one of the timers yelled “time!”, but another timer still had 10 seconds left on her phone. Even with the confusion, they were still allowed to continue for 10 more seconds. The confusion didn’t even faze the team. They kept going on strong, and got 15 words correct. Period 6 is happy with the result and leaves to go back to their seats.
There is still time left, so King P proposes a deal, “If winners can get 30 words, they each get 100 more karma points and 40 points per classmate”. Most people have already left the classroom, but the people who were still there, stayed to see if period 5 would get 30 words. The team starts off strong like always, but they only get 26 words correct. Then, they are given another chance to reach 30 words, and they start off really strong. They go really fast than before, and they get 26 again. It seems, they can’t get past 26 words.
The vocab game showed who was prepared for the competition. Period 5 is in first place, then period 6 is in second place and period 4 is in third place. Even though period three is in last place, the team tried their best. Danielle Swenson from period 5 said, “I was so stressed out for this. I studied my butt off for this”. Alizia from period 6 said, “she felt fine through the whole thing”. She didn’t feel any pressure during the game. Although most teams left feeling okay and some may have left feeling disappointed, the game brought tension to the classroom. Everyone mostly had fun, and hopefully there will be another vocab game so period 3 can make their comeback and dominate the vocab game!
