World War 1 Vocab Game: Period 5 Takes First Place
As Josh Shaw of period 3, organizer of the vocab game, calls for order, the entire class calms down. The games are about to begin. Minutes before the game starts, the class is alight with chatter and bets. The competitors prep themselves, and tensions are flying high as the audience makes bets on who will be the winning team. Who will take home first place, and along with it the bragging rights and pride? And who will go home with their head low and tail between their legs? The audience can barely wait to see.
First up is the team from period three. The entire room holds its breath. How will the first team do? Will they dominate the game? Set the record? Or will they be the first to crash and burn? After all, it’s always hard to be the first to do something.
Josh calls start, and the entire room holds its breath as the members of the period 3 team begins their first take. Much to the audience’s disappointment, they set off with a slow start. There were a lot of long, stress-filled pauses. As the team begins to get more comfortable, they speed up a bit, but it’s too late. The timer calls time, and they’ve only gotten 5 words.
Period 4 is the second team up, and they also don’t have the strongest of starts, passing their first words, and stuttering when giving definitions. However, once they pass their first word, they also begin to speed up, similar to how the period three team did. However, they also only got 5 words total.
Next up is period 5’s team, the team who publically stated that they would dominate and win. Everyone in the room is rapt and watches the team as they take their positions. How will they do? Will they really win like they claimed they would?
Much to everyone’s astonishment, they live up to their promise. In fact, they soar above the expectations. Once the timer called start, they shot off with a strong, fast start, and kept a steady pace throughout their entire turn. As everyone watched in amazement, they shot definitions and vocab words back and forth much faster than the other two teams before them had, and had an impressive result of 18 words correct their first take.
Last up in the first round is the team from period 6. Out of all the teams, they probably go up with the most pressure on them. The standard has already been set, and the top score has been achieved. Will they beat the score? Get a lower amount than the lowest? After all, they can’t leave with an anti-climactic ending, can they? Everyone is counting on them to bring the first round on the World War 1 Vocab Game to a strong close.
They do not disappoint, much to the audience’s entertainment. When the timer calls start, they have a good start, though not as strong as the team from period 5. Though the team progresses rather well, they are unable to beat period 5, ending on a high note of 16 words, ending the first round of the World War 1 Vocab Game.
As the teams reorganize themselves and prepare for round two of the game, the results from the first round are posted. The teams from periods 5 and 6 take the lead with an overwhelming difference, with period 5’s team taking first with a total of 18 points and period 6 hot on their heels with 16 points. Period 3 and 4’s teams tie for third, both scoring 5 points each.
Now for the second round!! This round will determine with period gets out, and so far, it seems like it is a competition between periods 3 and 4, who both have a total of only 5 points. Who will claim third place, and who will leave the stage with nothing?
Once again, period three starts off the round. Like their first take however, they start off slow and are only able to get 7 words, setting them up for a total of 12 points. Now it’s all up to period 4 to see who will claim third and who will leave with nothing.
Once they start, you can see that period 4 has no intention of lagging behind. They have a strong start, and the team keeps a steady pace, pushing themselves to get 14 words and a total of 19 words, beating period 3 by 7.
Now for the top two places. Periods 5 and 6 are fighting for first place, and neither team will back down without a fight. Who will win?
It is now once again period 5’s turn to take the stage. As of now, they are in the lead with a total of 18 words. Let’s see how they do this time, and if they can top their first score.
As expected of the leading team, once they’re given the ok to start, they start off very quickly are stay very, very strong the entire. Their steady pace carries them through a good amount of words, when the time is suddenly called. However, after some clarifications, they are given 10 more seconds to make up for the fact that they were told to stop ten seconds early. Their final result is 27 words, getting them an impressive result of 45 points total. Now all that’s left is to see whether or not period 6 can beat period 5’s high score. Can they do it? Are they up for the challenge?
Unfortunately, though they had a strong start and a steady pace, period 6 was unable to trump the top score set by period 5, and lands second place with 15 words in the second round, and a grand total of 31 points.
The final scores for the World War 1 Vocab Game are: First place with a total of 45 points goes to 5th period, second place goes to 6th period with 31 points, 4th period places third with 19 points, and fourth place goes to period three, with a total of 15 points.
At the end, as the majority of the audience files out of the door, King P suggests an extra round, or a challenge, for the winners of the vocab game: period 5. The challenge presented was: if the team can get 30 words in a take, they will each get 100 more Karma points, and 40 more points per classmate.
As expected, period 5’s team took the challenge, and did quite well. They had a strong and steady start, with a very fast question ad response time. However, thye only managed to get 26 words, and were 4 short to getting 30 words. King P gave them a second chance, but they still got the same score of 26 points.
